Staurogyne repens

Product description

About the species

Staurogyne repens is a fresh green, compact and hardy plant for the foreground of the aquarium and it was found in the river Rio Cristalino in the southern Amazon.

Its closest aquaristic relative is Hygrophila but Staurogyne is different with its marked compact, low and bushy stature (5-10 cm) and small green leaves (each stem is 3.4 cm wide).

When planting in the aquarium, the longest upright shoots should be cut off and new, horizontally creeping shoots will soon form from the plant base and gradually colonize the gravel. In low light, the growth becomes more upright and much fewer side shoots are formed.

FAQ about Staurogyne repens

How do I plant Staurogyne repens?

Remove the plant from the cup, gently rinse away the nutrient gel and divide it into several small portions. Plant them with some space between each portion so they can establish.

Is Staurogyne repens free from snails and algae?

In vitro plants are grown under sterile conditions and normally arrive free from snails, algae and pesticides, making them suitable for sensitive shrimp aquariums.

Does Staurogyne repens need CO₂?

Requirements depend on the species. CO₂ and balanced plant nutrition often produce denser, healthier growth, but follow the light and care requirements in the product description.

What matters during the first few weeks?

Provide stable lighting and nutrition, avoid major changes and remove deteriorating leaves. Newly planted specimens often need time to adapt to submerged growth.
