Christmas Moss

Product description

About the species

Vesicularia montagnei - Christmas moss from our own cultivation Portion of about 1 dl of Christmas moss

A classic! Vesicularia montagnei, also 'Christmas tree moss', is named after the leaf structure that branches out like a Christmas tree (as, admittedly, other mosses also do). If it gets a lot of light, it can become really dense, too little light gives a rather sparse "tree".

Christmas moss can be perceived as more demanding than other mosses, but really only needs slightly brighter conditions (plant high up in the aquarium if you have low lighting) and like most mosses grows slowly. It attaches to stone or root and can sometimes attach to the substrate as it sometimes forms roots.

Pruning is required to maintain an attractive shape. Moss normally does not require added CO2 or extra fertilization. Origin: South America Type of plant: Moss Height: 1 - 3 cm Width: 3 - 5 cm Temperature: 15 - 28 °C pH: 5.5 - 8 Light requirements: Medium Growth rate: Slow Requirements: Medium

FAQ about Christmas Moss

How do I attach Christmas Mossa?

Divide the moss into thin portions and attach it to rock or wood with thread or aquarium-safe glue. Thin layers receive better circulation and usually grow more evenly.

Does Christmas Mossa need CO₂?

Most aquarium mosses grow without added CO₂, but steady CO₂, balanced nutrition and stable lighting can produce denser growth.

How do I keep Christmas Mossa looking good?

Trim regularly and remove loose pieces and debris. Good circulation around the moss reduces trapped dirt that can inhibit growth.

Is the moss suitable for a shrimp aquarium?

Yes, moss provides a large biofilm grazing area and fine hiding places for shrimplets. Always check that the plant is clean before adding it to the aquarium.
