About the species
This sought-after variety of Bucephalandra originates from the flowing and humid environments of Borneo, where it grows firmly on hard surfaces underwater.
With its compact growth habit and characteristic blue-green, iridescent leaves, it makes a vibrant and colorful feature in both naturalistic aquarium layouts and more creative scapes. Bucephalandra sordidula 'Blue' thrives best when attached to roots or rocks, where it slowly grows over time.
It is resistant to variations in water values and has a low need for light and CO₂, although extra supplementation can enhance colors and accelerate growth. Because it is in vitro grown, the plant is completely free of slugs, algae and disease, making it particularly suitable for sensitive aquariums and shrimp tanks.
Characteristics Difficulty: Easy Growth height: 3–6 cm Plant colour: Dark green to blue with metallic sheen Placement: Foreground to midground Growth rate: Slow CO₂ requirement: Low (benefits from supplementation) Light requirement: Low to medium pH range: 5.5–7.5 Water temperature: 20–28 °C Origin: Borneo (cultivar) How to handle in vitro plants Take the plant out of the jar and rinse it thoroughly in lukewarm water.
Remove any nutrient gel by gently massaging the roots under running water. Divide the plant into smaller portions and attach to rocks, roots or other hard furnishings. Allow the plant to establish itself for 1-2 weeks - then it will begin to show its full potential.
