Ceratophyllum demersum 'Foxtail'

Product description

About the species

Ceratophyllum demersum 'Foxtail' was found in a small tributary in Bolivia during an expedition to the Rio Guapore, a border river between Brazil and Bolivia. Ceratophyllum has no roots as such, but it can still be planted at the bottom of an aquarium and the stems can grow up to 80 cm high and 5 cm wide.

'Foxtail' differs because its leaves are closer together and it has lateral shoots, giving it an attractive, compact appearance. Portion of approx. 1 dl Ceratophyllum demersum 'Foxtail'

Ceratophyllum demersum, or Foxtail, is an excellent plant for shrimp aquariums for several reasons: Shrimp need a place to hide and feel safe, and Foxtail provides a perfect hiding place for them. Its thin and feather-like branches provide ample space for shrimp to hide and move freely.

Foxtail is also an excellent plant to keep the water quality high in the aquarium. It absorbs nutrients and chemicals such as nitrate and phosphate from the water, reducing the risk of algae growth and keeping the water clear. Foxtail also provides a good source of oxygen in the aquarium.

Through photosynthesis, the plant produces oxygen which is released into the water and which can help the shrimp breathe more easily. Foxtail is a fast-growing plant, which makes it ideal for absorbing excess nutrients in the water and thus preventing the growth of unwanted algae. In addition, it can be used as a food source for shrimp.
