About the species
Gratiola viscidula comes from North America and is relatively new to the aquarium hobby. Its somewhat "spiky" appearance in the submerged form makes it very distinctive and easily recognizable. It is quite easy to grow and prefers good light.
By regular pruning it can be kept very low, almost like a carpet, but it also works well as a cushion plant in the foreground and middle background. Each stem is about 1-2 cm wide and can grow to 10+ cm high. The stem branches and spreads willingly, giving the plant a very dense appearance.
